Michele grew up in Wenatchee. She spent a year as a Rotary Exchange Student n Brugge, Belgium. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in English and Creative Writing and worked in marketing and corporate communications before taking a 25-year sabbatical to raise her three sons.

When her sons went off to college, she looked for something to do. Her middle son Henry, an artist, suggested she reach out to Jan Cook Mack and ask for a painting lesson.  He had studied with Jan at her studio in Sunnyslope as a high school student. “But I’m not an artist,” Michele said to her son.  “Nobody thinks they’re an artist until they start painting,” he remarked.

This month marks her two-year anniversary of studying under the tutelage of Jan.  Michele loves to tell stories with the characters she paints.  She remembers how she told stories to her boys when they were little, looking at picture books.  Now she imagines chickens on their honeymoon, ducklings ready for an adventure or chickens having opposing views.
