Rufus Woods: “Pybus annex will be a game changer for our valley”

Former Wenatchee World publisher Rufus Woods wrote this newspaper column on July 3:

“The newly remodeled annex at Pybus Public Market is simply stunning — a game changer for the market and the community at large.

The $500,000 project is close to completion, although we will need to step up and do a little bit more to pay for these improvements to this community asset. About $390,000 has been donated, so another $110,000 still needs to be contributed to fully fund the improvements.

Recently, Pybus Executive Director Steve Robinson walked me through the space and I was blown away by the functionality and the aesthetics of the remodeled space.

The event center space was created out of the original concrete-block building attached to the Pybus main structure. Windows and doors open up to the river on the east side of the building, which will create wonderful indoor/outdoor opportunities for events.

Prior to the improvements, the space was barely usable at times because of noise and heating and cooling challenges. The acoustics of the main space have been improved dramatically along with quiet and efficient cooling and heating.

A second conference space has been carved out, and the second floor of the building will house offices that will include Subsplash, a company that provides mobile technology for churches.

Pybus Public Market is one of this community’s most treasured assets. It’s a place that connects the community in powerful ways that support our local nonprofits and providing a destination for community members and visitors alike.

Aren’t we blessed as a community? Let’s make sure we support this financially.”
