The 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Whistle-stop tour comes to Pybus Market in Wenatchee on Wednesday, November 6 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
For nearly five decades the beautiful and iconic U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree has been selected from a national forest as a gift from the American People to our nation’s Capitol. This year Washington State’s Colville National Forest has the honor of providing the People’s Tree. See it at Pybus Market during this 2-hour period. Smokey and Woodsy also will be there to meet and greet.
Also on Wednesday evening, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. see the public debut of two newly completed documentary shorts from Howell at the Moon Productions starring legendary farmers Grady Auvil and Tom Mathison.
“GEE WHIZ: THE APPLES OF GRADY AUVIL” tells the story of the guru, saint, sage and occasional pain-in-the-appleseed, Grady Auvil, the pioneering orchardist who brought the likes of the Granny Smith apple, the Rainier cherry and the Fuji apple into mainstream production in the United States.
“TOM MATHISON: THE GROWING SEASON” is the biography of the much-loved, hard-working family man who, through perseverance and a willing to take big risks, founded one of the largest tree-fruit companies in the world, Stemilt Fruit.
Each documentary short runs approximately 30 minutes and filmmakers Jamie Howell and Jeff Ostenson will be on hand for questions and answers following the screening. The documentaries are part of the Community Heritage Documentary Series created by Howell at the Moon Productions, and are non-profit projects made in affiliation with the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
