Martha Flores Women
Artist Statement
As with many artists, my work has gone through several periods and phases.  I have worked in many mediums, but acrylic is my favorite.  I am also a sculptor.  My subject matter is usually women. My work has always been influenced by what is going on in my life and in the lives of others, by world events and human suffering. I especially love to paint women as flowers, trees, and oceans.  Women are the metaphors for my poetry and my paintings.
This body of work represents women and their quest for a better life. Women working, women looking for shelter, women caring for their children.   I am depicting women from different parts of the globe because we are all on this quest for Peace, to eradicate hunger, to have better health care, to have rights to education, and for a better life.
This is an excerpt from my poem titled:
“Emerge Woman Emerge”
Don’t feel entrapped in the four corners of your own canvas.
Your road is wide, your walk is immense.
Emerge from dark lonely caves of doubt and fear.
From turbulent waters of turmoil and confusion.
From deep, stormy oceans of loneliness and despair.
Don’t burn your dreams in the fire of indecision.
May your inner strength give you outer strength
to continue to fight, to continue to grow.
Please welcome Martha Flores to Art Alley for a reception on Friday, January 3, 2025!
