Art Alley @ Pybus – Sierra James – July ~ 2024Sierra is a contemporary artist who pours her love of nature and people into art, producing film, graphic design, paintings, and functional art pieces. Sierra has been working throughout her career to uplift the voices of people experiencing trauma, oppression, violence, and disability. Sierra has been a non-profit executive for the last 20 years.
Sierra has been painting since her late teens. Her work has been exhibited throughout Whatcom and Skagit County as well as in Seattle, New York, and Timor-Leste. Sierra was born near Bellingham, Washington, and attended both the University of Washington and Columbia University.
Sierra spent 15 years living in the post-conflict nation of Timor-Leste working in child protection services, gender equity, and violence prevention utilizing a transformative arts curriculum. For this work, she was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship for social entrepreneurship. Through both her art and work, Sierra strives to positively transform lives and bring joy.
